VOCO Hotel Aruba is the result of a complete renovation and rebranding of the former Talk of the Town hotel. This iconic property, located on the main boulevard of Oranjestad, has been transformed with a modern and refined architectural design.

Our latest flagship project took us to the heart of the Caribbean, where we were commissioned to execute a complete lighting transformation for a luxury beachfront hotel. The challenge was to balance high-end aesthetics with the technical demands of a tropical environment, ensuring that every luminaire could withstand salt spray and humidity while providing a world-class guest experience. From the initial conceptual design to the final installation, our focus remained on creating a nocturnal identity that feels both welcoming and grand.

For the building’s facade, we implemented a layered “Wall Washing” technique combined with strategic “Grazing.” By placing high-output LED linear fixtures at the base of the architectural columns, we emphasized the texture of the coral stone and the verticality of the structure. This approach not only highlights the hotel’s silhouette from a distance but also creates a soft, ambient glow that eliminates harsh shadows, giving the property a majestic presence against the Caribbean night sky.

Finally, our integrated smart-control systems allow for a seamless transition between the cool light needed for colorless diamonds and the warmer tones that enrich colored gemstones and pearls. This dynamic adaptability ensures that every piece in the collection is presented under its ideal light signature, creating an elevated retail experience where architectural precision meets the timeless allure of fine jewelry.

The entrance and lobby access were treated as the guest’s first sensory touchpoint. We utilized “Orientation Lighting” integrated into the architectural lines to guide visitors naturally toward the reception. By using warm color temperatures (approximately 2700K), we created an inviting transition from the dark exterior to the interior luxury. Dimmable smart controls were installed to adjust light levels automatically, ensuring the entrance remains vibrant at dusk and elegantly subtle during late-night hours.

The landscape and garden lighting required a more artistic touch, where we employed “Uplighting” and “Silhouetting.” To bring the lush Caribbean flora to life, we hid small, high-durability spotlights at the base of palm trees and exotic ferns. By directing light upward through the foliage, we created dramatic shadows and depth, turning the gardens into a three-dimensional gallery of nature. Every fixture used in these areas features IP67-rated protection to ensure longevity against heavy tropical rains.

In the corridors and transition areas, our priority was “Visual Comfort” and safety. We moved away from traditional overhead glare, opting instead for recessed “Step Lights” and low-level wall sconces. This technique keeps the light source below eye level, preventing fatigue while illuminating the path clearly. This subtle distribution of light maintains the hotel’s intimate atmosphere, allowing the sound of the ocean and the tropical breeze to take center stage without the distraction of industrial-strength lighting.
